Representative Cox Receives "Defender of Liberty Award"

State Rep. Stanley Cox, R-District 118, was named one of the recipients of the American Conservative Union’s 2012 ACU Conservative Award. ACU Executive Director Gregg Keller presented Cox with the award during a reception at the Jefferson City Double Tree Hotel on Tuesday, September 11. Cox received the “Defender of Liberty” award based on his 100 percent voting record on legislation that advances conservative principles.

This is the first year the ACU has rated the Missouri General Assembly. In 2011, the ACU expanded its annual ratings of Congress to include ratings of state legislators in Florida, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia. This year, the ACU further expanded its rating program to state legislators in 15 additional states. Though Cox and several other members of the Missouri General Assembly scored 100 percent on the ACU’s rating system, the organization presented awards for scores of 80 percent or higher on its rating system.

"As a strong conservative, I am honored to receive an award from one of the top grassroots organizations in our country,” said Cox. “Though we've made great strides toward restoring our State's economic competitiveness, there is significant work to be done in the coming year. As many Missourians continue struggling to find jobs in such a stagnant economy, it's crucial that we continue pursuing bold, conservative solutions in the State legislature."
